Marketing Library Resources, its Product and Services
Today I read an article in DESIDOC Journal of Library and Information Science. Title of this article is "Marketing of Library Resources, Services and Products by Vanita khanchandani and Nabi Hasan"
I like the way it was researched and presented, Library is generally considered as non functioning department, Library is considered as sleeping department of any institute or corporate. But as Librarian we people only know what effort we are putting to collect all the information and to meet every ones demands.
So I think marketing of library is must to show what we are doing...
This article has given some of the steps which IIT Delhi has taken to market its Library. Below are some of the points -

1. Library website - All Library should have own dedicated page in which they can display all their contents. Rules, facilities, e-contents etc.
2. User orientation - Librarian should have a dedicated display screen to display how to use libary. Also librarian should give his presentation on all the facility of library on induction.
3. E- Resources - All record of database should be their on website.Thesis, reports should be scanned and properly updated on e-portal.
4. OPAC - Dedicated computer should be installed to search books.
5. Discovery services or search engine to search books, e-books, database and standards with single search engine.
6. Video Library services - Lecture, informative videos etc.
7. Inter library loan services - Subscribe to DELNET
8. List of new arrivals - All new books should be kept of 15 days on display before sending them for circulation.
9. Book Bank services - All student shall get a set of books for their academics.
10. Technical Talks regarding Subscribed databases. - User should be made aware of all the subscribed database. It can be done through mails, through display board or through posters.
11. Library brochures - Should contain library rules, facility and all do's and dont's.
12. Remote access facility - It should be given to selective users like faculty etc.
13. Newspaper and magazine clipping service - same as current awareness services
14. E-newsletter - you can see my newsletter in newsletter tab, I am publishing this as I am working in a corporate libary. Academic should come with his/her institution news.
15. Atmospherics - RFID should to minimise manual work.
